Summer 2008--a time to come

I can't believe it. I am leaving for the URJ Camp Newman in less than 13 days. It all seems so unreal.

This summer almost everyone was expecting me to go back to Kutz again work as an Avodahnik. It was what I even thought I was going to do.

On EIE I was filling out my URJ Camp Staff form, trying to figure out what I really wanted to do...

The past summer at Kutz was amazing, don't get me wrong, but Josh Whiston said something to me that really made me think. He told me I need to songlead next summer, it's what I am suppose to do. Brett also said that to me too. They both said I should work at Newman. I've also heard amazing things from people about Newman. How its a great camp and a great place for songleaders to start especially.

I thought about it, and really was just like eh, I'm going to probably go back to Kutz again.

On EIE one of my madrachim told me I should go work at Newman with him this coming summer. He was trying to convince me, but he also knew how amazing Kutz is. He went himself for four years. But he still tried to get me to work at Newman. One of my friends wanted me to come work at Harlam. All these URJ camps, so little time.

During EIE I probably filled out that URJ Staff Form 5 different times. I still couldn't make up my mind.

When I got back to the galut, I still had no idea what I wanted to do. Until I got a phone call from a fellow songleader on my way home one night.

"Hi this is Jeremy Gimbel, I was wondering if you wanted to come be a songleader at Newman this summer? We could really use some more songleaders and I think it would be awesome if you decided to come work for us..."

Well, it's kind of hard to turn down an offer on the phone from a fellow songleader. No other URJ camp called me and asked me to come work for them, I figured they must of wanted me more than the rest. And truly, that's how I came to my descion.

So, I am going to work at Newman this summer and couldn't be more excited about it. Ever since I was 10 years old, I've always wanted to be a camp counselor. It's been a dream. The fact that I get to songlead too, makes it even better.

As always, I've got goals for this summer.

1. Have an amazing summer
2. Learn as much as I can
3. Become a better songleader
4. Make new friends
5. Connect with girls in my cabin

That's about it, I'm excitedddd :]
